What types of products do you stock?

We stock hundreds of patterns of lace ONLY from France – in all colors, widths (1’’ – 72’’), all types (Alençon, Chantilly, metallic, Lyon) as well as several types of tulles from France (polyamide, silk, point d’esprit, flock, etc.). Click or more details on each type of lace.

Do you have colors

We have lace in every color! At a minimum, almost all of our patterns come in white, ivory, and black. We then have a large variety of patterns that come in different colors, and shades – including one that comes in over 50 colors! We also stock a large collection of metallic lace, available in all colors. If you have a specific color that you’re looking to match, you are welcome to send us a swatch and we’ll send you coordinating lace options!  Visit our Pattern Gallery

How can I see your collection?

The best way to see our full collection is to come visit our showroom in NYC! If you are not local, or are not planning a trip to NYC, we do have a set of XEROX copies of most of our patterns that we can ship to you along with some swatches to give you a feel for our offerings – this is our way to bring our assortment to you. We’re also happy to cater to any specific item you’re looking for, send swatches, or do a virtual appointment in our showroom. Please contact us to order a catalog or schedule an appointment.

What are those threads hanging on the bottom?

They are called eyelashes and are an integral part of the pattern. The eyelashes are not to be cut off. True French lace is scalloped – often by hand- to expose the eyelashes. From the length of the eyelashes and spacing between the eyelashes, one can identify an authentic French lace.

Can I design a custom lace?

Each lace pattern is carefully designed. It is sketched and hand drawn and designed by skilled workers. It takes specified artisans approx. 2-6 months to create a given pattern and any change can require the entire pattern to be reworked. These patterns are then translated onto punch cards or digitized (depending on the loom used) – the language that the ancient looms can understand. As a result, while a custom lace can be designed, it is extremely time and cost-intensive. We have hundreds of patterns to choose from and are always happy to work with you to try to find the perfect pattern, or patterns, to fit your vision.

You say you stock, but do I need to be worried about quantity if I need to reorder?

We stock hundreds of yards in any given pattern, color, and width. All of our patterns can be reordered in France.

Do you have a rep outside of New York?

Our office in NYC is currently our sole outpost, however, we work with and ship out daily to customers across the USA and Canada as well worldwide, so we are used to working with those far as well as around the corner.

What are your minimums?

Another great thing about Gelmor – we do not have minimums! In general, we sell our lace by the strip, approximately 4-5 yds depending on the pattern and exact piece at hand. Each strip is hand-measured before being billed out and shipped.
If you need less, we can also cut into a strip, with a surcharge. Our tulle comes with no minimums – we cut exactly the yardage you need.

Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?

We pride ourselves in always offering the best prices to our customers, whether they purchase 1 strip or 100 strips.

Are you a rep for a lace mill?

We are actually not reps, but importers: we purchase lace and tulle from several mills in France — all of the highest quality.
This allows us to keep our patterns in stock, as well as curate a (very large) collection to best suit our customers’ needs.

Do I have to be a known fashion brand to order?

Anyone is welcome at Gelmor! You do not need to be a known brand nor a big company to work with us. We love working with, and welcoming, any customer – big and small, old and new.

How do I place an order?

Please email us at marilyn@gelmor.com and hillary@gelmor.com or call us at (212) 391-6984.

What is your appointment policy?

We look forward to receiving you in our showroom! Due to concerns brought on by COVID-19, we are now seeing customers in our showroom by appointment only. To schedule an appointment please contact Marilyn or Hillary.

What is the difference between French Lace and lace from other places?

The feel is smooth and soft, never scratchy. The patterns are complex, the motifs varied and consistent, the colors pure. The lace does not tear and wears beautifully. Learn more about what makes French Lace special here.

What are the benefits of working with French Lace?

The lace will withstand the test of time. If properly taken care of, it will last and last. It will be as beautiful as the day the garment was made. I have blouses that are 50 years old and look great!
